It looks great to me. I love the little white lanterns with the hearts on - they are a nice touch. I would like to see a larger version of the image as a whole (without parts cut off).
Reminds me of the old Tenchu games, which I'm a huge fan of. What process did you use for the textures? I'm really curious because they all most look like photos but then when I see the finished renders they have a very nice style to them.
PS. Vincent, couple years ago I heard that Ubisoft uses Houdini, can you share some more info about this? Is is still used there? For what type of work?
JoshuaMorrisonInk you don't know how much to be compare with Tenshu is a Giant compliment to me.
For my Textures my process is the old way. Take pictures make them tiles, retake color scheme and saturation, create a normal with Crazy Bump and a Black and White Mask with Photoshop for the Blend in UDK.
Natland you are right, my lantern look to much artificial. I have to put some yellow and make the structure of the lantern visible.
I will try with a transmission Mask as jfeez said.
mantragora sorry but because I have sign a NDA I cannot talk about it outside.
Not to shabby, looks great for a distance but not sure it would hold up in an third or first person shooter. You nailed the visuals and theme and got some great composition going, but feels like the overall quality of the texturing and distribution of polygons could have been more thought out. The lighting is pretty good and its all well presented, but I can't help but want to see things close up and really see the quality of the art.
Hi Richard, I agree with you, sometimes my texturing and polygon distribution could be better but I think this level of detail would hold up in an third person shooter. It is what I made at work and it works.
It's true I'm working the old way and i will try next time to do something more clean and modern.
