Hello Polycounters, there's been a lot of bad news coming from this industry in the last few months, but I hope with the help of Polycount you can help make this good news for our indy game studio based in Copenhagen.
Starting sometime next week our Company, Full Control Aps will be launching a kickstarter project to make a new version of the turn based strategy game called Jagged Alliance.
http://www.jaggedallianceflashback.com/http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/jagged-alliance-flashback-interview/
The game will be a reboot of the old MS-DOS tactical strategy game from the 90's.The game will be a prequel of the original Jagged Alliance game and will follow the events that led to the founding of AIM (Association of International Mercenaries). The game will be turn based and you'll be able to read more about the actual game next week when launch the Kickstarter for the project.
The minimum budget we are asking for will be $350,000 but off course if we reach our stretch goals it will give us more resources and time to make a better game.
Our studio, Full Control, has been around for a few years making mobile and PC games. I joined the company back in November and ever since then we have grown as a studio and we have an experienced team who is currently working on a Warhammer 40k title called Space Hulk. We were also fortunate to get our second exciting IP in the form for Jagged Alliance and with your help, we have the experience to make this game properly. Granted we meet or exceed or Kickstarter goals. I'm really excited about the big opportunity our little Indy studio has been given and i really hope we can make this game.
Off course with your help you'll be helping us make a good game and also help some fellow Polycounters who will be part of this and hopefully future projects. This is my first job outside the shadows of big publishers and i really hope that this company grows into good studio, who both makes good games and treats their artists as human beings. The potential is there. We just need your help.
Once the Kickstarter goes live ill post the link but for the time being here is our company website.

I really hope the Polycount community can help this game happen and I thank anyone who contributes.

Nope, no dumbing down here, we have alot of old JA fans so we want to make it with the level of challenge it deserves.
I'm rather interested in this, huge fan of JA2.
At the moment I am not sure to be honest, one thing we will take seriously is community feedback when it comes to the type of game it will be. When making a game with a pre existing fanbase, the last thing you'll do is make a game that will piss off said community.
Alot of game websites are posting up their interviews so you can get a good idea of the sort of game we want to make.

Yes i suppose working any IP with a pre existing fanbase can be a bit of a risk. It could very well be that this project is completely unacceptable to fans of the previous games and the Kickstarter fails due to this. Or it can also succeed and we make a game that makes a fun and meaningful contribution to this IP.
Once it goes live its up to the public to judge whether this is a project that merits funding or not, if they choose yes and fun it then its up to us make a good game that the public will enjoy.
So here is a yes or no. Do you have the IP rights to the game? If no, is part of the kickstarter gaining the funds to purchase such?
No the company doesnt own the IP, the company has a license from Bitcomposer to make it.
So 20 dollars from you then
Intentions might be good, but fans might have a hard time accepting the reality of publisher involvement, many might even try to stay clear of it.
In reality most of the big projects did the other way instead, spiritual sequels to make sure the IP will entirely and always belong to the creators.
Wouldn't it have been better to do a in-spirit successor to jagged alliance while still being its own IP, sort of like planetary annihilation did (and that became crazy popular purely from having an awesome mockup-video)
The Kickstarter is finally off! All the points you guys brought up could very well cause the kickstarter to fail. I am personally not speaking for the company when i posted this. Its just purely self promotion and just asking for support from the community I have been a part of for many years. So if it happens, well cool, it will be fun to make the art for this.
If you dont think its a good idea well then you probably wont back it, if you like it and do,thank you.
I really like both the crazy depth, gear micro management, and character depth of JA2; and the semi-realtime tactics of Back in Action. (AP points are lame, XCOM has the right idea) If you're aiming for a middle ground between the two in some way I'm super interested.
Thats what we will do through the span of the Kickstarters through updates, as chrilley mention alot of the answered questions are in the comments section.
I think in the coming update we're touching on alot of the subjects that are most pressing for peeps (i for one agree with you on the AP system, but theres also quite a lot of people that swear by it)...
But I'm probably "special". While I enjoyed XCOM as a game, for me it didn't compare to the original all too favorably either.
@cpt As for the graphics we hope that the visuals for the game will be a step up from the previous incarnations, weather it will be a straight up realistic style, i dont know. There are other ways to skin a turkey as they saw when it comes to the visuals
Totally understand that. Just makes me want to wait instead of pledging now though.
More in-depth stuff will follow in the weeks to come for sure, we still havent even covered character customization and weapons uhhh
Lots more updates on the kickstarter page.
