Hi guys, it's been a while since I've posted here. I've been working on my real time effects reel lately and I've decided to post here as I make progress.
That being said, feedback and critique is extremely welcome.
Here is my first effect: A bonfire
The effect consists of:
1 decal
3 particles
1 dynamic light
The luminosity of the light is linked to the brightness of the material using kismet magic.

I created the skydome material and moon with a single 1024x texture.
The position of the moon is based on the direction of the light source.

Here is a render of the decal for the fire scene. It gets overlayed on top of the mesh parts.
These are the fire particles. The particle system is set up to use sub-uv and picks one of the four particles randomly.
And here is the lit smoke particle. As the particle reaches the end of its life span, the material becomes more and more distorted.
I'll post some high resolution screen shots in a bit.
