I got all the texturing done for the Mirana items this weekend, sans spec maps/color masks. I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so I'll get that finished up when I get back next week.
I would say the lion is too front-heavy but that's just because the fur looks solid, can't really do much about that with a sculpt I suppose. Maybe just something to keep in mind.

Yeah, he did a lot of tweaking on the low so everything looks readable from in-game and fits with the existing items. He made the head a little smaller and was very sad about that.
It's just about time to start something new. We went on vacation to Washington state over Memorial Day, and came back with an idea in our head. For the next project, we decided to make a courier. Got a pretty awesome animator on-board already, so now it's just about actually making the damn thing!
Well yeah, that's true. There's a lot of cute couriers on the market now that wouldn't really be battle ready either. I kinda feel like couriers should be cuter, so that they're not confused with an actual creep or enemy (I know, everyone knows what all the enemies look like, but I can imagine this being a problem in an ever-expanding game). Sort of a distinguishing visual language that is more or less already in place.
But most of the cute couriers that are on the store don't look like house pets. Though they might be cute its something that fits the battlefield instead of looking like an animal you might see in your house.

I see what you're saying. We're going to have to play up the bird aspect of the courier a lot in the mesh and texturing. Also, we've talked to the animator about making its motions a lot more birdlike and a lot less catlike, so hopefully this will make it look more like a wild animal that just so happens to have the face of a cat.
Thanks, Jacques! And yeah, that's a distinction that I personally do like to see, those are some really cute examples. c:
Going kind of slow because Dry is on a long ass vacation in Europe and I don't want to get ahead since we're splitting the work on this, but here's some progress with the courier.
And I might as well bump this thread! Here's the progress on the cat bird courier. I took a long vacation in a foreign land, and couldn't work on stuff or post on the internet for like two weeks. It was grand.
Once I got back, though, there was a lot of progress on this little guy.
Textures are done on these guys, the animator is animating and we're about to start promo shots. On another note, I don't ever want to texture another cat, or at least, not for a month or two geez.
I made some stuff for Enchantress at the International 3 event last week, finally got it all finished. Did sort of a tropical themed mini-set, it was a lot of fun!
Dry made some stuff at the event as well, which I'm sure he will submit soon.
You totally will see them soon, we're submitting all 4 of them and then jamming them into a collection That should happen sometime this weekend! We had them as a single submission, but that kinda flew under the radar during the International, so we're breaking it up and letting people vote on their favorite one.
Wow, I kind of forgot we had a thread here. Dry and I have actually been really busy making stuff in the past few months, now that we're making Dota stuff full time.
Along with some updates to a baba yaga courier that's being animated right now:
:O I LOVE this! I was actially playing around with ideas for a Babba Yaga courier idea myself (more hut form than human form though) - guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board!

Aw man, sorry to step on your toes! We've had this goin' for a long time, and the animator is finally submitted final stuff, so this might happen soon! If you want to do more of a house courier though, we could team up with that and submit them as a pair or collection! If you wanna chat about it, send a message to me over steam DrySocket
btw, KILLER work on the courier you're making now. Just top notch
I was a bit concerned about how that was going to look ingame while following the sculpt, but I gotta say, I'm really impressed with how everything turned out! As Zip said, it looks really nice with her particles, and the different colors are a great addition. Love it!
OH maaan Alia your work is TOO GOOD So jealous of all your loading screens ahh
random question - do you make a 3D render of your set and then paint over it for the loading screen or just paint by hand? either way looks so good. That spec set is beastly ;D

I use the hlmv to greenscreen a basic screenshot/collage of screenshots with slightly different angles to get the composition I want, and then just paint over everything. Thanks!

Haha you make it sound super easy, gonna have to look into hlmv myself! Keep up the beautiful work

Shagbark just got in:
Snowl made it in as well:
Hunters Dallying Llama is pretty cute as well (just not as Chibi eyed).
I really think the community is onto something here with the cuteness of the couriers.
