Hi all
I started making this model 3 months ago, did a long time because i do not have enough experience in creating game characters. done in parallel 4 characters, one is almost ready/
I'm not a character guy, but I really like the design for the first guy. It's a nice blend of mechanical and organic elements.
There are a few areas that could use some work though. For instance, his chest shows hard edges and is clearly defined differently than the rest of his clothing in the high poly. When texturing, you made this area the same material/texture as the clothing. I think if it's to show mechanical parts underneath the cloth, you could do more to represent that.
The metal material texture could use some pop. The material doesn't quite read as metal and could use a higher spec. The metal is all gray and could use some color variation. This could be in the form of numbers, logos, decals, something to break up the constant gray of the metal.
Also it's too symmetrical. It needs some asymmetrical elements to really make it stand out more :P
Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next characters!
Man, the first guy rocks, especially those arms/hands. My only gripe about the first design is the torso/belly area. There seems to be a consistent level of detail around the whole model except for that area. It just sort of feels a bit empty to me. As for the second character, the only thing that struck me right away were the size of her feet. Maybe its just the lack of armor bulk, but they seem rather tiny.
Overall I think these are awesome, though. Keep it up!
Like everyone has said above, your first character is truely unique but there are a few things that are letting him, mainly the sleeve creases/folds appearing too sharp (same goes for your female character as well). Another thing you could tweak is the specular map for the metal as it appears to be quite flat.
But its doesn't rake away from the character at all, those tweaks would only serve to improve it. Good work and I look forward to seeing more.
