hello everyone! I've been a lurker here for some time and thought I should start posting my own work here.
I have a BFA in 2D illustration but I've gone on to learn digital painting and 3D stuff on my own. my main tools are Maya and Photoshop. I don't know much about rendering besides basic Mental Ray tools, but being able to texture in PS has let me cheat a little. still, I know my work is lacking, so crits and suggestions are very welcome!
I haven't picked up a high poly modeling program yet but it looks like most people here seem to favor doing high poly stuff and then retopo?
anyway, here's some of my work. all textures have been hand-painted over AO maps. these are in chronological order, starting from the top
this was before I knew how to fill the texture seams in Mental Ray
still a WIP, I had just gotten most of the face done.
antlers. 26 color variations for this one
flying creature I've been picking away at. second two images are the black and white value paintings I started to set up as bases for textures.
small environment I had set up in Second Life
some feet. I did 180 different color combos for these (base colour vs. larger scale texture)
I also have been working on a fan project to get myself to finish things faster. I did a few more simplified style rigged character models based on Yogscast Minecraft skins, so here's a few I've got done so far
Sjin, my first one. I want to redo him as Farmer Sjin later sometime because I learned a lot from later models

Honeydew is still a WIP. all the brown/leather needs polishing and the skin lacks depth, among a few other things
