Escape: Gateway of The Afterlife

Hey guys,
A buddy and I have just decided to take part in this contest and we are planning to make an environment and a character. I will be working on the gatekeeper, as Michael works mainly on the Temple Room.
Here is a quick back story to our entry.
With his kingdom ruin by war, an archknight by the name
of Izgort has to journey to a temple far beyond the realm of man to retrieve Gem of Fallen Souls and bring back his fallen brothers to conquer his enemies. The temple serves as the gateway between the living and the afterlife located at the edge of the Earth. There our hero awaits a dangerous task where he must face the Gatekeeper of the Underworld.
Obstacle
Player must retrieve the gem from the Gatekeeper and escape the temple. Gatekeeper uses the Gem of Fallen Souls to balance the amount of souls between the living and the dead.
