Did you have some kind of reference ? Not to say that there is something wrong with it, but I am just curious to know if there is something like that in real life and where/in what context.
And if you want some critiques:
-The flower-thing border, on the sides of the big bottom part, are maybe a bit too noisy when looked from far away, I really had to zoom to understand that it was flowers.
-I think this piece could have looked way more impressive with a different face or facial expression there. It looks like a rich woman, like a duchess or something, which is cool and make sense for this kind of architecture. But I don't know, I can't help but to imagine how it would be with an authoritarian man or women with a death stare in the eyes, and a more stereotyped look. Like some characters from Dishonored.
-Maybe, just maybe, I would have prefered different proportions for the piece, I feel like maybe the head is looking less important because it is smaller than the part on the bottom.
-Maybe a more pronounced AO in the diffuse and painted highlight, could be cool to mark more the shapes.
But it is only because sad panda wanted some critiques, it looks really cool.
My favorite part of the victorian details is from the bottom part, under the big round part. especially the twirls on the side there.
Thanks for taking the time to write some crits ng. aniki
I'll be doing more Victorian style ornaments for a large UK scene that I'm working on in UDK.
I'll take your suggestions in mind! The death-stare idea is cool, and I can use that on a gargoyle statue that I'm starting. It's another piece being used in the scene.
Unfortunately all of the textures in the scene don't have painted lighting in. I could probably do some weathering though! As well I'll try out a pumped up AO and see if it pushes the forms.
If you're interested in seeing the scene...well I don't really have a thread for it. But there are some screens on my sketchbook, you'll have to scroll down...sorry bout that
Looks very neat ! The bake also looks flawless. In my opinion it can use some repetitive details on the edges of big structures, and foliage sculpts filling up the gaps. I actually gathered some reference images for ornaments some time ago, I can mediafire it if you like.
As my dropbox is working a lot atm, I am loading your sketchbook veeery slowly. Would love to see your scene this piece is for
I agree with aniki's points. Especially about the face! But as with everything you do a lot of, you become better every time, so I am looking forward to seeing your other assets for this scene.
@chrisundrum Do you basically want it to be painted purple to yellowish-green? Not entirely sure what's going on with your paintover. Explain your idea

As for a ref; this piece is loosely based on this ornament.

To be frank, you are not really encouraging feedback by just telling the tri count.
