I imported some custom images. In the editor they appear fine, once cooked and in game they are pitch black. You can go up to them and fire your weapon and the image will light up. What setting can cause this?

sounds like your scene does not have proper lighting. Try placing a light in your scene and rebuilding lighting.
Sorry I forgot to mention, I'm using decals to project the images. So it's not a mesh.
From a google search it looks like something I need to do in the material editor, but I don't know what. All I did was hook the material up to 'diffuse'. I actually have a light directly in front of the image and in the editor it shows up fine but once cooked and in game it's pitch black.
