It's probably a little early for a devoted thread, but this is pretty much the only upcoming movie I'm really looking forward to. A stand-alone space opera set in the existing Marvel movie universe? Count me in!
"A futuristic team of superheroes protect the galaxy from danger." Still in pre-production, but here's some concept art!
Haha. I'm not sure, but that's probably a good guess. It's based off this series. Haven't read it myself, but with such a wacky group of characters, I can only imagine it's awesome.
I am instantly interested in watching the exploits of an Super Hero Raccoon voiced by Jon Benjamin. Heck, I wish I could become a Super Hero Raccoon voiced by Jon Benjamin.
He's furry Deadpool pretty much, minus the psychotic 4th wall breaking dementia, and more of "I'm the best there is, even while I'm burying you alive" kind of deal.
This is looking like such an incredible opportunity to go completely crazy with alien worlds and characters and action. So much potential for an SF blockbuster the likes we haven't seen in a long time... The artwork reminds me of McQuarrie's Star Wars paintings a bit, some of that '80s feel and imagination.
So glad Marvel is willing to take risks with this. I guess the enthusiastic response to the Asgard and Jotunheim scenes in Thor was a big push.
I read about this a little while ago and thought it was cool. I recently read the first edition of the new Guardians of The Galaxy. While it wasn't much it was enough to get me interested.
It'll be interesting to see exactly how they handle this to keep it tonally consistent with the other Marvel movies. It's pretty weird, even in a universe that already contains a Norse god and a guy in a flying robot suit side by side.
Seriously, the only way to do this is to go all the way. Aim to make it the Star Wars of this generation, don't hold back on anything, and they'll have a winner. There's just far too much of the compromised stuff.
Rocket raccoon + Groot is the comic relief, their dynamics as a duo that is.
Its like Cp30 and R2D2 in a way, RR is the talkative one and is a heavy weapons expert and Groot well his only dialogue is "Groot". He carries Rocket Racoon around.I really really hope they go all out with this one,The Annihilation Conquest storyline was the last comic series that I bought and I enjoyed it a lot best Marvel space series since Shiar Xmen thing.I have high expectations for this movie I really really hope it won't dissappoint.
Because of Thor being so good, I have a lot of hope for this movie. I don't know anything about this series but I am super excited anyway. Same thing with Antman but I am more excited for Antman because I am an Edgar Wright fan.
This trailer was kind of underwhelming, I felt like it tried too hard to be funny, but nothing really was. I'm really into the designs and stuff though, it looks like it will be enjoyable.
That was cheesy as hell, and the dialogue was really tacky in parts... Like they were trying to make it funny but not quite pulling it off. Also, the 2 guys doing the analysis on the people (John C Reilly I think his name is, and the guy from Shaun of the Dead) seemed like really strange casting choices, they didn't fit in IMO.
I'm hopeful it'll turn out alright though because it seems like an interesting premise. Love the lil Racoon guy and Groot!
Maybe i'm biased because i loved the comics. But the Guardians of the Galaxy comics read very differently to other marvel comics too. They're quite slapstick humour in a lot of places, and i think they're trying to carry that same attitude over to the movie.
It helps to know the character's back story. He hasn't been on earth since he was a kid in the 80s, so he's going to be referencing that era, and cheesy goes along with it.
I'm usually quite nervous about cheesy too, but I think Pratt can pull it off. Lego movie proved that for me. There was also very little "new" footage showed, so expect a lot more "ooo awww space" in the coming months.

awesome! I never read the books and had no idea what to expect from this, but that's exactly the vibe I got from the trailer. Looks awesome. Gave just enough info about each character for me to be interested, fun music, cool set up, and unique visuals. Been a while since sci-fi tech has gone so multi-colored, nice to get a break from the limited palette JARVIS stuff.
Yup, this is going to be my movie of the year already. It seriously touches on everything I love! Humorous sci fi with great designs, hard surface porn, and cinematography that looks like a true comic book movie......plus Chris Pratt is awesome!
A light-hearted and possibly crude space action/comedy film? A leaned-up Chris Pratt in the irreverent lead role? James Gunn in the director's chair? A bizarre cast of intergalactic miscreants coming together for a common objective? A raccoon wielding heavy ordnance?
Oh yeah, I'm fully on board for this one. The trailer didn't blow me away, but I think the tone it set for this movie is spot-on. I'm not very familiar with the source comics, but I like the direction that it looks like they're taking with this movie. The premise in general is kind of off-the-wall and ridiculous, so going with a more playful and comedic tone is a good choice.
For the Marvel cinema canon in general, I believe that this direction is a good one. The upcoming Captain America sequel is likely to be considerably darker and more conflicted in tone. And the Avenger's sequel will also be considerably less playful than the first film. (apocalyptic robot confrontations usually lean towards the grim) A nice buddy/small team comedy in a sci-fi setting will be a welcome palette cleanser.
I wasn't entirely sold with the previous trailers, but this one makes it look like a whole lot of fun.
Rocket's voice sounds.... I dunno, not quite like what I'd expect it to sound. A bit too normal, maybe. It might be partly because he sounded like Jason Statham in LEGO Marvel Superheroes.
yeah, Rocket has traditionally had a cockney twang to his vernacular. Bradley Cooper is a great actor but i'll wait to see the full movie before i give him a thumbs up for this.

Most likely a trailer shot so some poor VFX fellas were working all nighters on it all through the summer...
I think they nailed it though.
(GG is a 30 second clip of lots of footage, and part of the X-men Days of future past trailer has leaked as well, both very very good)
I AM SO FUCKING EXCITE!
oOOga Chogga oOOga Chogga oOOga oOOga oOOga Chogga
I wouldn't mess with that raccoon, dang man he looks POed.
WHO ELSE IS FUCKING EXCITED?!
