Bonjour
So I now have a new computer that can actually handle intensive stuff without melting. The downside is that I thought a monitor that I already had would be fine. For the most part it's okay, but I'm a little concerned about how accurate it currently is in terms of contrast and the like. It's a little irritating that it doesn't have much in the way of built-in controls. Just a cheap Digihome thing, about £120ish or so IIRC.
I'm seeing this effect all the time with anything I'm working on, and sometimes on other people's stuff - but not as often - especially when looking at gradients that are supposed to be smooth. They just look like bands of colours/levels, so I'm not sure if I'm creating abominations of textures or if the lighting/gradients look OK on other displays.
Here's an example, shot taken from the Marmoset toolbag:

A quick fiddle with some settings didn't help. Checked that the banding is still visible without any specularity in Marmoset, and it is. So I'm guessing that it's something to do with my output from PS, which is kind of odd since I've never run into this issue before..
So it's probably an issue with the textures?

EDIT:
Okay, wow. Apparently I was saving out textures NOT as 32bits/pixel. Looking fine in Marmoset now.
ZacD, you were spot on.
