Hard Surface Topology Help

Hi guys,

I have browsing here for a while and found this forum both inspiring and informative.

I am attempting some mechanical parts at the moment in Maya and seem to be going around in circles when it comes to good clean topology and flow. I have too many poles at the moment and am trying many ways to terminate and connect loops in a more appropriate way before I tighten up all of the hard corners.

I have added my current wire frame (front and rear) and some photos of the item being modeled.

I'm hoping someone can illustrate how they would attempt this model. At first it seemed quite straight forward to model but, has for me, become more complex.

    i really wouldnt worry about flow or topology if tis for a hard surface high res model. so long as your control edges are sound, the rest is kinda just whatever. not saying this is the exact correct way to do it.. or even that there is one.. but this is how id tackle it.
