Hello everyone. I'm joining in on the fun kind of late, but that's ok I'll probably continue to work on this if I don't meet the deadline and add it to my portfolio.
My idea is inspired by Gradius, an old school side scrolling shooter. I'm going to be creating an environment as well as a vehicle. The environment is set in an underground cavern full of tentacles, worms, ooze, warts, eyeballs and everything nasty.
The vehicle is of course a spacecraft/jet of advanced human technology fighting its way through danger and looking for a way to escape.
I experimented a little bit before I decided on this topic, as seen in the thumbnails below.
My first priority will be to finish the spacecraft, but I will try and work on both things at once.

Went a little further by adding possible inhabitants of the planet. I don't know if I'll be creating a creature due to the time constraints, but good to keep in mind of what may be natural habitats of the environment I will be creating.
I decided on this one, I may change a thing or two as I go along after I see it in 3D.
Here's what i got so far.
Went back and polypainted the heart, might work on it a bit more.
edit: worked on veins a bit.
Working on fixing the scale too, a normal humanoid figure is actually pretty small in the scene, big enough for a jet to fly through each of the openings.
I think I need more smaller elements in the scene, probably alien grass and maybe small rocks/minerals and such to help give a better sense of the scale I'm going for.
Polygon count is at 9324, I think I could go lower on the geometry but I wanted to make sure the form baked the way I wanted. Textures used on the mesh is 2048x2048.
I've also added water/liquid to the scene, might turn it into blood, ill play around.
I might start sculpting more environment props.
