Hey all,
So I'm starting to use mudbox and I have tried to import a base mesh, it's a wall with a window cutout... very simple.
Anywho, when I import it, it comes into mudbox as if I applied a turbo smooth without adding control edges to keep the windows from being rounded. I have seen some base meshes out there that have similar angles that don't seem to do this... or maybe they do.
Is this something I can fix within mudbox, or is it something I just have to work around... it seems like an awful lot of work just to re-sculpt the base mesh to the proper geometry before actually starting the sculpt.
Thanks,

So I guess you actually added some control loops to your model and it still smooths it as it didn't have some? Tried the Turbosmooth modifier in max (or the program you use)? Still same issue there?
You could also try unticking the smooth option. I guess it was under mesh and then next to the dropdownlist on the very right side there's a small window click on it, and untick the smoothing. With that you can keep your hard edges. Works for most basic stuff, and saves time as you don't need control loops for it (on the other hands it sometimes looks shitty XD)
I actually had no control loops... so in mudbox, it looks like an object would if it had no control loops and a turbosmooth modifier on it.
If I add the control loops, then bring it into mudbox, then it looks just fine. I was just trying to see how low I could get the poly count for my base mesh.
Well as I said, click on the small cube/image next to the dropdownlist of "mesh" menu and deactivate smoothing. If you don't have control loops on the edges and want to work with it, simply disable smoothing, else you get a ball instead of ur box :P
