Hello everyone,
as the title states, I want to remake Super Metroid. Please note, that I am aware of the legal problems and maybe technical limitations I might face, since as of now I want to do this alone. What I need is some input of you, hopefully the fans of the game, so that I am taking the right approach. My first stepstone is to recreate the ceres space colony (which will then continue to a full demo of the game to the point where you first fight the Torizo after you got the morph ball.
This is already a huge amount of work, but I'm confident, that I will manage that at some point.
So I basically want to make a 100% true remake. But that makes me wonder. Will some of the things really work nowadays? I'm not planning on adding new features like the ledge grab or somethings. What concerns me more is the visual aspect of the levels. (The design itself is great.)
Will this repetitive stuff still look good, if recreated in higher resolution models and textures, or will it look absolutely strange due to the fact that they are so repetitive?
I know that there are a lot of areas where I can let my creativity flow, but still I need to be as true as possible to the source.
The approach I want to build this game on is, that I want to create a half visible cube for every square of the map of the game. These cubes will be modular and attached to another so it will fit the original layout.
So what do you guys think about this? How would you want to see this? Am I even in the right forum here for such topics?
