Final Update:
Escape - Hermit's Perch - m4dcow
There is a lot more I wish I could have gotten done, but I'm happy with the result, I might tweak some stuff for when it goes into the portfolio but it is what it is.
Initial Post:
My concept is an escape from civilization/people etc. I'm thinking of some sort of dwelling built upon a steep rock spire. The building comprises of scraps that have washed ashore, been scavenged or remnants of the hermit's old life. I am thinking of having some sort of rope bridge connecting to a larger land mass, and also a pulley system to deploy a boat for fishing, or as a means of escape (maybe a glider or balloon might be cool too).
What comes to mind is a pirate feel, with crows nest and that sort of thing, but crossed with a sort of slum haphazard construction where I can integrate materials besides just wood to add more color and texture to the environment (metals, plastics, glass etc...)
Here is my mood board.

Here is a simple blockout, of the structure, and a temporary cliff mesh.
good luck with your project
I was messing with a technique for a grass texture, it doesn't have the proper ground texture (just a brown plane for now). I need to get my color pallet for the natural elements down before I go too crazy with the textures.
Here is a corrugated roof test. There are some intersecting bits right now, and I still need to add panel color variations and nails, but I'm liking the result so far.
The precise regularity of the vertical lines on your corrugated roof bothers my right brain.
I would go the extra mile and offset some a half-step and rotate some, to give it a more natural feel.
I can picture the roof looking really cool with a bunch of hermit junk strewn around it.
As for the corrugated roof, almost all of the ref I looked at, even of the shittiest of shacks, has the panels lining up because that is how the stuff is meant to be used. If I end up having really large areas using that texture, I'll probably use geometry to cut out strips like for the edge of the roof, and layer a few of those over each other with odd rotations.
Here is my latest version of the roof texture. Now with 100% more paint and rust.
Rope texture looks great! very realistic, am really just nit picking but the joins to the rope at the side of the big rope should be different to the centre ropes to make it more realistic
I also started adding ropes to tie up supports and stuff.
Keep it up!
Background is just a plain brown for now, when I make my ground/dirt texture, I'll use that as the background.
That rock texture is temporary.
Almost done making the bridge.
Bridge done and in engine. Hopefully I'll be able to wrap things up tomorrow, errr today at this point I guess
Some clutter and a new sky box, almost there.
