As of today, Stardrive went to open beta phase on Steam.
It's a realtime 4x Space Strategy game by Daniel DiCicco, following the footsteps of the likes of the classic Master of Orion. Stardrive Steam Page Official Page
I've worked on Stardrive as an artist for 2 years now, a mix of 3d/2d work and also as acting lead artist advising the art direction.
It's been great fun and finally got around to showcase some of the art !
Also wanted to give a big shoutout to 3 amazing artists I worked with.
Nick Wiley - who was responsible for the gorgeous 2d portraits Matthew Oswald - who animated the above portraits, check the video below ! Alex Drummond - who painted most of the planetary icons.
great work on all those ships! cool game too I was watching the trailer on steam earlier, looks very polished hey just out of interest did you use one texture for all the ship variations and share a lot of uv space or did you do each ship seperately?

Cheers Ged !
Ya most race ships (about 9-10) share 1 large texture.
There was a huge amount of modularity, this helped us stay true to the schedule, budget but most important push the quality farther.
Bought it like I said I would... and lost my weekend to it. Good game for 4X fans indeed.
Really need to be able to zoom in on the ship designer page though, at 1920x I can barely see what I`m doing or appreciate the pixel art there.
Thanks for the kind comments, that's awesome to hear !
Ya that feature has been requested numerous times .. and actually my process already included highres versions for the icons before turning them to pixel art.
Obviously with the nature of gamedev some things get implemented before others.
