Great looking concept, however I can't get over the guy just sitting there. The fish is obviously moving pretty fast, but the guy is doing nothing to stay on it. I would think he would fall off in his current position.
I agree with Clyptic, it looks like he's just gingerly escaping from that giant monster. There's no real urgency in his pose since he's just sitting there. Maybe give the fish some reins that the kid is holding on to. He could be flying in the air barely holding on or something.

Clyptic, Sukkoto, Dolan: Good call! I've saddled him up a bit so there's some tension in the reigns so he looks a bit more 'seated'. I'm not entirely convinced myself, but i'll start tweaking it some more once i get it all in 3D - will probably have to give up on the quasi-buddha pose i'm quite fond of sadly.

Sculpt looks ACE! I really dig his proportions and general silhouette of him. I do think you could widen up his feet a touch and perhaps knobble up his ankles a twinkle too just so they match his hands a little bit better.
Really digging all the belts and strapping you are going to go for and that ahh.. bed roll thingamagiggy on his back is killer too.
i concur with nizza... NEED ART LOVES FOR THE EYE SOCKETS!
but latest update is flush with style cant wait to see some colour bizness and the fish beast

well... swing and a miss, didn't end up with anything polished enough in engine for the deadline, but that was kind of expected. time to take a break, but i'll get back to it later for folio.
artings: got stuff in UDK, but i cut a lot of corners and everything desperately needs another pass or two on textures ]: didn't even start crafting shaders... oh wells
