What might be the best way of sculpting really thin shards of wood that kind of flake off. The image shows a quick paint over what I'm trying to accomplish.

Move tool them out and maybe use dynamesh to have the topology be correct

or create a couple of those flakes in your 3d app of choice, insertmesh them and then use dynamesh to combine
