TF2 :binding a weapon to a bone

So, I am having a little trouble figuring this part out. I know I need to get an existing model and take its 'bone' and then put it on my weapon. For example, the Bat for the scout. I have GCFScape, and...thats about where I get lost. Where can I find the model for the bat?

If I have the following order right, after iget the bat, I take it into maya, delete everythign except the bones, and then 'skin' my model over the bones, and then compile it using something like guistudiomdl.

Am I missing any important steps in there?
