DOTA 2 First Workshop Item WIP

Hello Polycount :D

So this is my first time posting arty type stuff (so please forgive the amateurish quality) so if I’m in flagrant violation of forum etiquette apologies in advance.
I started working on this item last night with a concept doodle in Photoshop and downloaded 3D Coat to see if I could actually get a working Item (for Skeleton King) into DOTA 2.

This is where I’ve got to (let me know what you think) the model is all voxels:
*see attachment*

Now according to Valve’s rather broad workflow (http://www.dota2.com/workshop/) I need to “Unwrap the 3D model like a bearskin rug (UVs) so you can texture map It.” I’m a little bit at a loss as to how to do this. From some internet trawling I think I need to “retopo” the my model in order to create a UV map, and apparently 3d Coat can do this automatically but I can’t seem to find the magic button I need to press to do this. Failing that is it better for me to put a map together manualy as outlined in this video? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVm-iSFyek4"]3dCoat 3.5 - Intro to Retopology tools - YouTube[/ame]
Thanks for your help/feedback.

As far as the "unwrap like a bear skin rug" - I believe they were just referring to texture mapping using non-technical terms. Just do a web search for "texture mapping tutorial" for your 3D modelling program. It should be very simple for your model.
