*update 22.07.2013
ok. Some robots theme "Vehicle".) Added new handpainted stuff to old one.
Feedback about about 'how to make better' will be fine)
(Also comments about model "GoldenAspyd" are wellcome..)
:poly121:
i've decided to make some corrections to my work to DS2 contest -"ChaosMaker"
*** now, it'a time to make an axe.) coming soon.
Also down below there is an interective video - very cool stuff. Link http://www.shoogleit.com/2230-0_DS2-fanart
1900 tris by the way and i know i can easily cut of ~300tris':)
Hammer looks cool, really like the turret design , but how can you use a serif font for a sci-fi piece, thats totally off. Be careful with your design elements, they can destroy your image if you dont do it right. A wrong font can do that alone.
Replace the ones from your hammer and the turret, they do not fit at all. (Definitely a sans serif for the turret, hammer can stay a serif, but not this hippie one)
It is good that you try stuff like that, it will really pay off when you are at a state where your presentation looks great and special.
The pistol looks really odd . I see the barrel running through, but it just looks
wrong with all those deformations on it , its so clunky and not aesthetic imo, texture looks good tho.
hey, cool stuff! Love that turret gun and sword, they look great! That engineer guy is so cool, really dig the way you texture. The mace shows some nice subtle-yet-smart handy work with color to define texture. Dig it!
Have some general comments: One thing i notice overall is that some of your texture work feels "mushy." The pistol is a good example of this. You have some nice edging and some nicely placed highlights/hot spec, however there are a lot of areas where the diffuse goes dark on the inside of a surface, making it feel soft, or spec goes too dark reducing highlights on surfaces.
The art test mech doesn't have any of that, and i think its because you kept each paneled & angled surface very clean, which helps the edges read a lot more due to the highest contrast only existing to define a sharp edge and material shifts, instead of details and dark surface texture.
moose thx for pic.
"mmmmmmm" - means "good"? )))))ha-ha
Down part of sword (u made a paint over there), there is a geometry.
May be not so evidence coz of bad aspect. Some gif. down here..

And shield.
220 tris, 512 texture.. or 256..dunno))
Ah, that'd explain it. It still has a soft appearance however - your highlight is in the middle of that edge, but there aren't highlights at the endpoints of the edge - which will cause the edge to look round instead of flat and sharp.
I meant it is good that you try out things with your presentation. Not many people do that and thumbs up for that.
I was talking about Fonts. The text you use in your presentation. A typeart is called font. And there are multiple kinds of fonts, but the most important difference is
with serif and sans serif fonts.
Thing with fonts is that they carry a certain mood with them. Believe it or not,
there are not many visual forms which are able to give as much context and mood
as a font. Also, fonts are around 3x stronger than any other visual element you can
paint or model. They grab attention like hell because the brain is trained to read
them instantly. Point is, its important which font you choose.
Your turret can be as cool as it wants, and you can put as many cyber LCDs to display information as you can, but if your font tells the reader "Roman Empire"
then everything looks cheesy.
Serif fonts usually give a vintage, historic, or just very classy feeling per example. Sans serifs are more neutral and can be used for most of the things.
Depending how they look they can be very futuristic. (In general! Tons of exceptions)
It takes time and artistic vision to get familiar with fonts, but both increase with
time, so dont worry.
Noteworthy is that most fonts just look bad. Like your engineer one or the ones
you used for your darksiders hammer. They are just outclassed by more aesthetic ones
and have no real usage. You will be able to tell later which is good and which is not. What I said is that it is good that you do such things, because in the end
you will have leaned it, and your presentation will look great, while all the other guys who never even trywill always have a lame one.
Same with your graphical elements, they need some more work, but its a good start, dont give it up. (LCD, ornaments etc) Careful with layer styles.
If you don't know what you're doing you are mainly doing it worse. (text cases, inner shadow)
(The results are nearly never fine with layer styles alone, so don't be afraid to paint over - case of LCD screen per example)
I like the knights brave text there, it looks fitting and has videogame charme, right direction.
The sword on turntable has a way too thin edge. It looks really strange when it turns
and the painted reflections and stuff just fall flat.
The new highpoly looks really nice and the new lowpolys have a really cool texture.
she looks great but the only thing that bothers me is that in the beauty shot the light looks very flat and it makes the character look melted with the background. I think that if you put just a rimlight on the back of the character you can get a nice separation.
btw your handpainted stuff is awesome! (i wish i was that good °-°) but i think you should add more white higlights to the metal parts(the shield for example).
just my point
Really nice work in here to be honest I never saw this thread the old school sword versions was so cool, nice work all around and you already know i love the deadpool lady.
TheodorUrhed heh.. be a woman ))) D4V1DC hi man. U are welcome. Jamil Shaukat thx dude. M4rt3 thx. I've rerendered my stuff.
And i've made some oneday concepts. Trying to make simple nonfantasy
weapons with dwarfs stylistic. Some kind of realictic weapons, but not
fully ) Also want to make nextgen model of hammer and test Marmo2.
