Max 2012, icon question

Under 3dsMax in the past, i used to have a little icon associated with Max (from windows XP) that showed you a preview of the scene once you landed your mouse over it.
Now with Max design 2012 and windows7, i never saw it again. Is there a way to bring back this little gem back ? this was particularly useful when going through tons repetitive files.
