camtasia is very popular, for games most people are switching over to things like Twitch, livestream, ustream, etc. As it allows you to not only stream it but save your game recordings.
I would also check to make sure whatever game you're playing does not already have a console command for recording
Fraps does bring back a lot of memories though :P good times.
I think that Dxtory is way better than fraps, because it barely touches the FPS while you're recording, can't say that about fraps, and if you use it with the lagarith lossless codec, it gives you a very good balance between size and quality official page
Yeah, DxTory is good. It took me a bit to understand how it works, and getting the right codec selection, but once set, it seems to stay out of the way.
I've heard a lot of people suggesting Afterburner lately. I haven't tried it, but I've heard it gives good results.
