Arc Productions, a Canadian based CG animation and visual effects facility located in downtown Toronto is looking for a Director of Photography to join our team. With over 250 artists and technical directors and the most up to date resources available, we bring the vision to both major Hollywood studios and independent producers to life in a wide array of formats: theatrical features, television, DVDs, shorts and game cinematics.
JOB TITLE: Director of Photography
DEPARTMENT: Camera
REPORTS TO: Director and Producer
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Photography is the head of the camera department and works closely with the Director and Production Designer to design a cinematic visual language for the film as it relates to camera and lighting.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Work closely with CG Supervisor and Art Director to assure assumptions set in preproduction are fulfilled in production as sequences go into production
· Works closely with production designers to help set the tone and look for the film
· Work with story upfront to assure what’s handed off to layout is ok cinematically
· Guide and train layout team through building this cinematic language for the film with a focus on lens properties, camera placement/movement and composition
· Translate director's vision by working closely with sequence leads to establish visual language per scene
· Attend daily approval sessions and later sequence level approvals with the director
· Build and enforce efficiencies wherever possible and suggest revisions to workflow if needed
· Selects and determines the lighting effects needed to get the desired output
· Attend daily lighting review sessions
· Attend edit sessions to ensure established look remains intact during film/digital transfer and to supervise any final colour refinement
· Keep abreast of the latest photographic technology
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
· 5 years+ CG animation feature film experience
· Excellent artistic vision
· Creativity and precise attention to detail
· Ability to give and accept direction
· Exhibits strong organizational skills
· Strong communication skills both verbally and written
· Demonstrates strong decision making skills.
