OBJ into CS5- Not Displaying

Is there a known issue with importing .OBJ files (I'm using Max 2013) into CS5?
I try to open an object in photoshop, it appears to open, even shows my face count, and UV layer, but I see nothing in the window. I've tried multiple files, to the same effect.
I saw brief mention in some vague google search that a 3rd party exporter was needed in order to reliably save obj's for use in photoshop, any truth to this? And if not, any suggestions on how I should go about troubleshooting this?
