Hi, I was hoping to get some critique on this static asset, esp. with regards to texturing as that is the aspect i'm most trying to develop. Mesh is 14.5k tris, 2K normal/diffuse/spec. All modelling and texturing by me.
At first glance I would say it is too shiny for a car that has started to rust. Rust takes a long time to build up like that, so by the time the rust gets that bad the over all shine is most likely gone. and or dispersed like a filtered glaze.
Also the color of rust is never just 1 color, nor is it "Brown", id throw some reds, and a dip of orange; unless its just mud. but even even the bud would build up darker at those top corners.
I just saw someone doing a dirty rusty car on here, and he pulls off the rusted, yet "shiny" car feel. go look at his car, and see what you can get from it.

Blaisoid - I think you're right, but yea it's definetely the result of a high spec setting + bloom to emphasize specular contrast, so I'm gonna dial that down.
RailbladerX - I've actually seen Van Ryzin's work before, I was using it as reference pretty extensively during the course of texturing this asset
However, when you say rust I assume you are referring to the brown streaks running down the sides. You are not the first person to think that's rust, but it's actually supposed to be generic dirt runoff. I think the red colour is causing it to be read this way. This asset is not supposed to be rusty anywhere, any brown shit you see is meant to be either mud or dirty runoff. So yeah, I'm gonna have to mess with the color balance on that for sure.

it might be caused by excessively strong light but cleaner areas seem slightly too shiny.
