A buddy and me are thinking about doing a mech style game for our final project coming up during the summer semester. I will be handling the modeling and animating portion of the project so I decided to make a concept bot for said game. Specifically I wanted something to practice animating and rigging, since I have little experience with the former and no experience with the latter.

Also, I ran into a problem rigging the limbs properly, if anyone knows anything about rigging, IK chains, etc please read this Technical Discussion post: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116481 [/Crosspost]

Design is based off this model. Please note that I am deviating from the reference a little bit.

Please note the gun and hands are stand-ins to be replaced later. They came from this downloadable model: http://www.tutorialshine.com/free-download/file/85-gundam-rx-78-2-textured

My progress thus far.

Seems a bit stiff compared to your reference. I think, perhaps, that a few more joints in the torso should to the trick.

    I agree.

Once I figure out how to get the limbs to work properly I'm going to add an additional join into the knees and elbows as well.

    Update:

I gave the model new arms and shoulders, an additional knee joint in each leg and gave it a new gun and shield. I also gave up on getting the arms to function the way I initially wanted and just designed the new arms around a traditional ball and socket joint for the shoulder.

Something about the front view looks off to me, but the side view looks fine, what do you guys think?
