I have a new Uni project where i have to create a small environment composition with the Theme of Warhammer. So.. i have chosen a dwarven hallway. So far i have been gathering inspiration from Warhammer Online, tabletop gaming props and the films LOTR and The Hobbit.
The scene at the bottom left of the image below is the one i want to recreate. However there are a number of changes i want to apply for an interesting composition.
I will attempt to use perspective to lead the eye from the path down to the focal point of the scene, this being the extravagant doorway.

Maybe you're doing it already, but one tip is to think heavily in modular terms, and decide early on what pieces you're going to make and what unique/hero pieces you'll have. After that build the environment from those pieces. A nice way is to the blockout with early versions of these modules, and just update them with your final versions when they are done. Will save you enormous time later on!

I have started to model modular assets and placing them together for an idea of the scene.
Asset List:
Floor
Pillar Top

Wall
Anyway here is a normal map test of the bottom and middle pillar sections.
Don't forget the smaller stuff in the normal map as well some areas outside the damage parts look to flat without detail. Anyways good job

Quick update
I have been looking at how i am going to light the scene, Here is what i have so far using complimentary colours.
I wouldn't mind seeing some variation, like a column broken in half, or a piece of the ceiling laying on the ground.
This sort of reminds me of that scene in LoTR, but cleaner.
Not sure how you plan on going with this scene in terms of decay and all.

I've started adding textures to the assets and improving the lighting.
The floor and wall can be vertex painted to add damage
Blood decals added as vertex painting stains made the floor look very blotchy.

Looking good. The really straight lines in the blood decal look pretty weird though.
