I think this will be my first critique of anything here, and since we seem to lack the Spoiler tag, I'll keep it brief:
I come from the game-design / coder side of the fence.
What I see is that your environment's beautiful, but it would not serve a side-scroller all that well.
Why?
You're going to have to tie the camera to a fixed distance to have coherent gameplay in that format (or be veeeeeery careful about it in design) and the columns and other obstacles between the POV and your character will make it hard for players to understand what they're doing. "Am I jumping, or am I reloading? That column's in the way."
You probably want to think about how players will see the game and actually build your character and fixed camera code before building any level geometry. Then you'll see the immediate need to avoid things like columns obstructing the view, etc., which are very pretty but will be problematic in terms of gameplay.
Anyhow, it's probably a bit late in the show for you folks to address this, but it's what I see.
