Hello folks,
me and some colleagues came up with a fun idea for the Steam "Left 4 Dead" workhshop...
I guess it's for portfolio but first of all its for the fun of it, since we are huge L4D fans and play it every day during lunch break.
The idea is to mod the 4 player characters into the cast of "New Kids", a dutch comedy format fairly known in the netherlands and germany:
We'll post some WIP's, critique and comments are of course highly appreciated!
...I'll start right away with a fresh screenshot of the first character, Gerrie Van Boven!

The almost finished head sculpt:

Comments and critique is appreciated!
Also cleaned up some things and started detailing the jacket.
The initial idea came from oni, so credits for the "verdammt gute idee" go to him.
Almost there with the hires, started polypainting and retopology.
Then you jump out of my monitor and hit me in the face! I'm not that stupid Neox! :poly142:
Ideally we replace the girl and coach with the rig and animations from the other characters, not sure if thats possible though.
BAM !
figured i made an update on hows it going.
A lot of technical issues were solved last week. Main thing is that we can use the male rigs and animations of the characters and don't have to rely on Rochelle.
All the shaders have been figured out (moving eyes and rimlight yay).
Textures are very early stage, basic colors and some "normals2cavity" overlays so far. Still want to make the hair look prettier and try the possibility of jiggle bones before jumping into texturing.
Sadly 8 bit alpha isn't an option for the hair because of sorting problems and a bug in source that prevents nocull(2sided rendering).
other than that I polished the Highpoly a bit - only things missing are the hands (I'll sculpt them from a pair of extra hands for which I use the L4Ds chars hands) and a proper haircut..
Looking great! Love the idea!
Started the sculpt of mr. Richard Batsbak
Haha really love the crazy expression of Barry. Nice Job!
missing 2 Characters finalized
Also all animations and stuff finally work + custom icons.
Can't upload to workshop though (error code 16)
Checked network issues and tried from work place but no luck.
Maybe someone has a clue how to overcome this final hurdle?
Looks great! Hope you'll use samples from the movie, would make them complete!
do you use speculars ?
else it looks really nice, they look just like the originals
@Shrike: Jup textures/materials definitely could use some more love especieally for Richard. But at some point just wanted to get this over with and out there, spend more time in those compiler text files and fixing bugs than with actual model creation =P
