For all who have ever seen G4 in it's heyday you would have seen gaming television at its peak. For the people who never seen G4 befor; G4 was a TV channel that did nothing but show TV shows about games, tech and other geek stuff
Well as of now they have gotten rid of the two last gaming oriented shows they had; X-play and Attack of the show, and is now turning in to the Esquire Channel. Personally I haven't seen G4 in years due to the cut backs they had but it still sad to see it die.
If you have seen it tell me your best memory of it or just any thing you liked.
The voices in my head say that if you can't construct a simple sentence or be bothered to spell check, you are hereby blocked from passing judgement on any thing, at all.
I see no judgement being passed. Did you reply to the wrong topic hawken?
I am sad to see this happen. Although the gaming-centric programs had thinned out over the years, G4 was really one of a kind. No other channel that I know of was offering the kind of programming that G4 did. I haven't watched it in over 6 months though, after moving out and deciding to only have internet and not get TV.
It is hard to believe that it would be due to ratings, but I suppose that is possible. The reason it is hard for me to believe though is that G4 was the only channel to offer such up to date gaming and tech news.
However, the thinning out of gaming and tech programs could very well have made many people stop watching it.
Nerds and techies have been cutting cable for a while and the programing on g4 was going down hill 3 years ago, right after xplay was gutted and Ninja Warrior peaked.
I have Direct TV, so I was SUPER pissed when they decided to cut it from their network. I will always miss Screen Savers. Still to this day one of my fav shows.
They did it to themselves. It use to actually be worth watching, when it was TechTV. They had Leo Leporte, Kevin Rose, Sarah Lane, and Patrick Norton back then, and I loved the content, like Screensavers. Then they started getting obsessed over doing 12yr old humor, making sexual reference jokes about video games, and trying to be 'edgy' with that shit.
Then they started bringing in some really dumb sluts to skank up the gaming shows, yet it was obvious these chics were not into gaming (this would not include Morgan Webb).
I could no longer watch the channel, because my daughters were young at the time, and I didn't want them exposed to it, but also, I couldn't take the lame jokes, and the lack of any real content.
btw, If you're a fan of Adam Sessler (I wasn't), he has moved to Revision3, and is head of their gaming show.
I just want to point out the difference between this layoff thread and the other one. I think the G4 staffers got severance pay and their unused PTO so there's one major difference.
and lastly, notman, just because John Barrowman is a handsome guy you shouldn't call him a dumb slut, that's just mean. He had a reoccurring roll on Dr. Who, isn't that enough nerd cred for you?
Kinda like the Sci. Fi. channel that just turned into crap. Shame though, I enjoyed that channel and now stuck with the occasion programs like the Gadget show ect.
I used to love Arena, X-Play, and whatever the show was called before Attack of The Show. It was still good after the change, but I enjoyed it more before. Once they replaced a majority of the shows with "Cheaters" or whatever it's called, I started losing interest. Sucks, but I honestly haven't watched the channel in over 4 years.
Their target audience where people that don't watch TV, that was the problem. I think they where also popular with the dumb slut demographic. -this just in, I've been told the correct term is "Mute Prostitute"
It was always awesome to see reviews of the game you developed on xPlay.
The main reason I stopped watching was be cause I dropped cable several years ago. Ironically I just signed up for basic cable which would have included G4.
The Indoor Kids podcast did a show with Matt Mira who worked on AOTS, and Blair Butler who had been a writer for both X-Play and AOTS since TechTV.
I think the problem was that their key demographic has intentionally avoided cable TV since they can get that type of entertainment/news from the internet. That being said, podcasts and youtube channels are gaining a lot of traction. I wouldn't be surprised if some people resurface that way.

There was also that Comcast-owned problem in which it wasn't carried by every service (especially for DirecTV when G4 merged with TechTV *shudder*)
G4 (or Comcast) killed TechTV... for that... I have no sympathy. AoTS is trash compared to what it replaced, and how they went about the removal of Screensavers and eventual birth of AoTS. I did enjoy XPlay, but that was one of the few shows from G4 that made it over from the merger, I believe.

YES! ^What he said
This channel was nerd central! I mean, G4 had an entire half hour series of MMO machinima.

+1
It was a sad day when they switched over from interesting shows like the screensavers to bring in hour long "shows" dedicated to cheats
and even worse when that turned into gaming shows for 2 hours out of the day and cops and ninja warrior for the rest of the day..
Who do you think the target audience was?

11am-2pm Ninja Warrior
2pm-9pm Cops

Best line-up ever
