So this is a weapon I'm working on for a indie game I'm helping develop. This is going to be one of the main weapons in the game. The Assault Carbine. This took me about a day and a half to complete. It has 9192 Polys. What i need help with is tips on how to make a normal map of this and how to texture I have little to no experience in doing so, so any tips at all would be appreciative. Also any tips on the mesh. If needed I can provide the .blend file for it. Ill upload wireframes latter tonight when i can.

The refrence picture was originally designed by me and I had a friend do a redux of it in high detail.

Again thanks for reading this and giving feedback i can take all that i can get.

I think you might need to read up a bit on going from high poly to low poly using a normal map.

    Basicly:
Make highpoly -> Make lowpoly -> bake normals from high to low.

Unless I am making a mistake, this seems like neither, it's sort of a midpoly .
It is to highpoly for a low (with a lot of things that a normal map would fake), and it's not a highpoly either.

On the actual design, I think you need to think more about the how it looks from a non side view, the whole thing just it to blocky and just looks like the sideview extruded with some minor height differences.

So my advice would be, take a step back, and bring it back down to a more refined blockout, work on making the gun more interesting outside of the side view (and make sure to also keep it interesting in 1st person).

It's especially obvious in the scope.

And then from that build your highpoly.

The game will be from a 2D sidescrolling perspective using 3D assets and utilizing them to make the levels/enviroments look larger. I do however appreciate the feedback on suggestions for a FPS version of the weapon, this is also going to be part of my application portfolio for college.
