Everything looks like its on track right now. Only things that feel off are the shoulders feel a tad high, I imagine when you rotate them down she might feel a bit more rigid than you're intending.
And the skirt feels a bit too wide/foofy right now, makess it feel some what floaty, instead of it resting on her hips IMO.
It's looking very cool. I liked the original haircut and color, I broke the symmetry a bit. I feel the jacket is a bit too thick and bulky. It makes the raincoat look uncomfortable to wear, and difficult to close. I'm looking forward to more updates!
Wow, this is starting to look great. Nice job!
I'm tempted to echo MrHobo and Edrice about the "bulkiness" of the outfit. She might end up looking a little stiff. Also loved your original hair concept.
I think the reason it's looking so big is because of the breastplate. The breast caps are looking a little big and in real life woman who had armor in the medieval times accutly almost never had the caps you see in stereotypical images. I feel if you squish the entire chest area down that would help. Her face is womanly enough that you wont need a huge chest area to realize she is a woman. I think you realize this issue already but just in case. Also here is a ref of what a woman armor probably would have looked like
On the topic of breastplates and breasts, having separated and rounded breasts molded into armour wouldn't be the most practical. A lot of breastplates were designed with a triangular design, to deflect blows away from the vital organs, having instead two conical shapes would deflect blades/arrows towards the sternum/squishy bits half of the time.
Hey Matt, really cool work on this character, was fun seeing you make it on hangouts!
There are however a couple of things I've noticed. The hair seems very unnatural compared to the rest of the character. I think this is due to heavy saturation, and perhaps a lack of contrast. It reads better in the left image, but the middle and right image less so well.
Also I'm not sure about the material on her upper legs. I assume they're supposed to be tights, but the metallic blue/grey and the plasticy red are throwing me off a bit.
You know it might be easier of you just did everything in Zbrush. Concepting with dynamesh is great. Then you retopo, unwrap UV's, export everything to Xnormal (with polypaint), bake and thats it. You will need to arrange the texture layers in photoshop ofcourse but all the textures would be baked already.
Its just my opinion though, Im a simple guy. I remember back in the day working with lots of programs in my workflow and it was frustrating at times.
If the free version won't work on your machine then a licensed one won't either. They are the same application and you can set everything up in the free one and the license can be installed later for rendering. Are you having a technical problem?
Hey there Teriyaki. First off, sorry for the delay in getting back to you about the Houdini error. I've been travelling for business so a little swamped. Fortunately, I see that Robert from Houdini has joined the forums and I'm sure he'll be able to help out with the issue.
Oh, and your character turned out beautifully so far! Congrats!
I talked with support and it looks like you are trying to open the wrong version of Houdini. The Apprentice license (and the Apprentice HD license you will be receiving) is for HoudiniFX which is our full-featured version of Houdini. So make sure you are either clicking the Houdini FX executable or entering "houdinifx" in a shell then you will get the correct version of Houdini. Let me know if this fixes things for you - rmagee@sidefx.com.
