Thought I'd open up a discussion on this and rant a little bit. Personally, I think it's pretty dumb. I have this really cynical feeling that Joe Biden is not really there to listen to anyone. He's just there to look like he's making an effort to hear this side before he goes on and makes his own decision with whatever bills he's going to introduce.
I guess maybe I'm taking it a little personal because it's my industry and my entertainment that he's messing with. And I have no doubt that decisions made in America will have an impact me as a Canadian. I can remember as a kid, when Mortal Kombat first came out in the arcades, and the talk about video game violence came up then too. How they want to ban this and that, and even getting the Nintendo version to replace the blood with spit. Can it actually go as far as make studios replace blood in the same manner? My last 2 games was literally shooting guns and killing enemies.
What do you think will happen with this meeting? What positives do you think may come from this?

Amazing!
Geezus christ, how many times am I gonna see that same sentence on message boards/twitter/etc today? lol
If you want less games about war, stop starting so many of them.
PS: Games don't make violent people, violent people revel in violence wherever they find it.
kthxbye
It's the business of running peoples' health, and you're breeding a country of violence in the process.

Remember, video games were legitimized as free speech in the Supreme Court a few years ago
Ok now you are just being silly. All see there is the need to confirm a bias against fox and the NRA.
Was it stupid for the NRA to bring it up? Yep. Did everyone in the NRA support that claim? No.
At the same time progressive groups sponsored a study and then published it, the "study" said that 77% of parents blame violent video games. Of that, 45% said violent games are a major problem.
These results were posted all over left wing websites and news media.
Honestly you cant just toss the video games are to blame topic on the NRA and Fox. Everyone was doing it, not just one group which you may oppose due to your political senses.
Now that you mention it, I do jump on every turtle I see, just to kick it as if it were on ice.
Truth right here, but, sadly, that won't deter a politician who feels the need to "look like we're doing something".
Statists gonna state.
Honestly, there's such a gap in generations that grew up with games, and those that know nothing about them. I wouldn't be surprised if Biden didn't know who Mario is. They should put this to rest because it's a farce. This man[sic] is 70 years old I'm sure he plays halo on the reg.
Let's get our facts straight. There many larger lobbyist groups than the NRA. People that oppose the NRA like to make that claim. Emily's List (feminist organization), Attorney/Trial Lawyer's Lobby, Association of City, County, Municipal Employees, and many other union, business, and political PACs spend more. There was a time when the Israeli Lobby topped the list. IIRC the NRA is about #300 in the list in political contributions and not even in the top 150 of total lobbying dollars spent.
Most people do not know the facts and the media certainly has its biases in how it reports.
Well I have heard from various sources that Gabe Newell was seen chasing a school bus down the street wielding nothing but a crowbar... so it must be true!
There was more
(The above chart isn't exactly for violent crime rates, but the graphs are pretty much the same)
I wouldn't count on the Supreme Court to do anything. Write your senators and representatives. Tell them to either respect and protect your constitutional rights or expect to have their opposition in the next election receive your support and contributions.
I like how Half-Life 3 is on his monitor screen :P I Hope it gets announced with Steam-Box's release.
Use of adjective "gigantic" to describe lobbyist group NRA. In the scheme of things the NRA is not as big nor does it spend as much money as many, many other lobbyist groups. Therefore it is not a gigantic lobbyist organization. If that touches a nerve for some reason then please delete my posts.
Next up on Internet: we find some people who consider Eiffel Tower "enormous"... until we set them straight with the facts.
Perhaps you should have brought up comparisons to groups that are diametrically apposed to the NRA. But that's a bit inconvenient isn't it? It's why the pro-gun crowd would rather compare gun murders to car accidents than murder by other weapons.
After the decisions they have made recently for industries. Yes. Yes I would expect them to strike it down.
He obviously never heard about the poor victim who was violently bludgeoned with a giant scrabble piece...
ya fuck i got a black eye playing scrabble and that is never happend playing gta or CS
Your last comment including the phrase "pro-gun crowd" seems to imply that I am somehow defending the NRA by pointing out some statistics about its "size" vis-a-vi other lobbying groups according to funds raised and spent on political contributions. You think that the NRA is a "gigantic" lobby and I don't think it warrants that adjective given the facts about lobbying contributions. There is nothing else to read into what I posted other than that simple fact. If you want to believe the NRA is a "gigantic" lobby then go ahead and believe it, but please refrain from inferring things just because I don't think the NRA is a gigantic lobby. I hope we have cleared up any misunderstandings.
The hateful liberal stereo type tries to confirm their bias in the same way.
Instead of trying to marginalize and demonize a group of people while pumping up your own bias, why not contribute something more intelligent or at least entertaining to this conversation? Better yet, exhibit what we call "tolerance".
It'd probably be a more effective tactic for them to put the ESRB under pressure to lower their threshold for what constitutes an AO rating. Forcing developers have to self-censor or risk not being able to get their games on consoles or sold in most retail stores.
But this will probably just be a couple weeks of circle jerking until everyone starts fighting over the financial apocalypse of the debt ceiling.
Hold on, they're getting rid of the second amendment, tell will come for your videogames too
XD
If pro or anti guns are more important to you than this industry.
GTFO.

Unfortunately we're just a political and parental scapegoat

you do realize why Joe Biden is meeting with game industry reps, don't you?
