"Also ran" entry, since the cloth sim takes forever and always (*always* :poly127:) seems to explode at frame 47 and I just dont have the time or the patience to fix that, meaning my animation is about 1 second long

Don't forget that the Polycount community is awesome and filled with talented artists: feel free to ask for advice and comments on your work: you'll get help from experienced modelers.
I seem to have progressed onto a kind of DXHR kind of vein, but I can't draw well enough to show the little details I'd like to add: that may be for the best, since I need make with the model work
Didn't take long to go back to the drawing board - It is supposed to be a costume contest, so it might help to have an at least vaguely interesting costume afterall...
Updated detail version of the one I liked the most - think I need to darken the colours a bit more, but it shows the general direction I want to go
And here's where I'm at with the modelling -
Since the face is garbage (so are the hands but I'll deal with them later), I'm playing paintover on photos to try and work out what I should be doing...
here is some reference that helped me a lot when i was studying good facial topology: http://www.phungdinhdung.org/Studies_paper/Realistic_face_modeling.shtm
hope it helps you.
best luck to you
thanks Bananahead - the link was educational (and it helped solve my problems with the nose)
And Dryula - it's only part stylization; it's almost equally the fact I have no idea how to model people. What I've done before has tended to be more architecture, so even at this incomplete stage this is the best I've ever done at character modelling.

Textures/Materials need a do-over, and I want to re-model some parts of it to make the Houdini bit easier (and more interesting in the final outcome).
