Next gen Hoverbike (Looper)

Hello all,

I'm currently working on making a hoverbike. I finished the High poly version of it, so it's ready to be baked down ;) But i'd like to get some feedback from you guys on how to improve the design of this hoverbike. Are there things that will give me problems if i want to make a normalsmap from it, are there things that don't make sense, ... Anything i could do to improve this model would be appreciated!

The bike is currently a replica from the movie "Looper". Reference images can be found here: http://www.therpf.com/gallery/looper/p2506-looper-hover-bike.html

Thank you in advance!

Your reproduction looks pretty solid in terms of geometry and mesh work.

I hate the design of the vehicle though, it's nonsense. Why does it have mechanical handlebars and Bowden mechanism brakes like a bicycle and how is supposed to actually turn?

I know the design is nonsense though ;) if i have some spare time, i'd really like to make this vehicle more realistic...

People on this forum really lack some common decency and social skills... Incredible.

Anyways, I think it looks cool, would really appreciated some wires. As for improvement I think you can add a lid on the gas tank and maybe some more details on the block thingy underneath it.

    Good luck man.

I don't think it has a gas tank? The two domes on the side are reminiscent of a chain cover that you'd see on a dirt bike (and probably are on the prop). It's basically the non-functional parts of a dirt bike slapped onto a jet engine.

It's a fairly faithful reproduction of what you see in the photographs in his link; it's not his design work.

Looking at it again, I think the mesh may actually be a bit longer and shorter than the original prop (it's hard to tell with the perspective of a lot of those photos), but that's actually probably a positive.

Sounds like a pretty tricky task, how do you intend to go about it?

Idk, I just looked at this pic and compared the parts.

Thank you for the feedback, i know the design really doesn't make sense, but to me it looks realistic enough because there is enough detail to it, it looks like it could be an actual vehicle, whether it can actually hover or not is another question :D I might indeed ad a lid to the "gas tank" and add some details as Brygelsmack said :)

thanks for looking into it, i won't be changing the basic shape of what i have now (lenght, height etc) because i think it looks fairly convincing :) What i'd like to do, is add some wings to it maybe, or a tail, some airplane elements, anything at all that could give an idea of how it should lift off and actually float and steer :) this won't be for any time soon though, because this is part of a school assignment, but i'd like to keep this piece for portfolio work, and then it would be nice if i could do a "before - after" compairision of what the original bike is (as seen in the movie Looper) and my interpretation of a decent hoverbike :)

The bike looks awesome! Amazing job building it from reference photos. A few notes...the thickness of the intake could be about half as thick, the speedo could be a bit larger, the landing gear could be thicker and the horizontal shocks below the handle bars a bit thicker.

The tank looks great... it was stretched and widened from an existing Portuguese bike. The handlebars and seat were from some small scooter that was never mass sold here in the US.

The frame was scratch built as was the "engine".

I designed it in Sketch Up as a concept so it is nice to see with real detail to it.

    Great work!

    Hey Ron!

I must have missed your post, i finished the bike as an in game asset, it now looks like this:

more images of the bike, in other rendering engines, can be found on my portfolio page:

Glad you liked it so far! Nice to know you designed it :D If I have some spare time I will look into your feedback and change what you mentioned ;)
Too bad I missed your feedback :(
