use the transform node on your object and scale it to the desired scale after that cache your geometry out next open a new scene and use the cached geometry for your sim, check the new tutorial in the forum he explain how to to do this very well
Question on the cloth sim - does it break the "rules" of the competition if we fix certain frames by hand after the sim has run? I'm have some issues with the cloth intersecting the geo, and given how long it's taking to run, I don't think I'll have time to fix it and rerun the sim *and* still get the other stuff done. So I was wondering if it was allowed to just fix some of the bad frames by hand in houdini.
I received a mail with the instruction to install my license Apprentice HD. It is said to run my license administrator but ... what's that ? Where can I find this ?
Thanks a lot for the help
Since the time is approaching, I was wondering about the submission procedure - I got it so we need to send email to the same address we sent contest registration email to, plus post work in a "final submission thread". So the question is should a new thread be created for final submission in the same topic or should we post final in a wip thread, or both, or else? Any naming convention? Thanks:)
Hey there, Kozlove.
There is no obligation to create a separate thread but feel free to do so if you'd like.
What we've often done in the past is simply have each participant edit their first post (on their thread) with the latest version of their projects and provide us with the link. We'll also need a YouTube URL of the animated character.
does anyone know how to attach the ends of curves to the scalp base mesh in maya have a script but only works for pre maya 2012, working on the hair atm.
Hello,
I'm a current Fxphd member so I already have a temp license to the non-apprentice version of the software. Do I still need install and run the Apprentice version of the software for the competition? Please let me know.
Sorry for the delay: Yep submissions for the contest will be accepted until March 18, 2013 at 11:59:59 pm PST (San Francisco). As Jim accurately calculated, that would be Tuesday Mar 19 6:59 am GMT (London).
Cheers and good luck everyone... You're almost at the finish line. Time to push forward!
Quick hints for you guys as you are ready to finalize your projects:
- Make sure your video is long enough for the judges to really take a look at your character, the detail, etc.
- Adding some music to the video always helps polishing the final presentation.
- Make sure you get lighting right! It's always sad not to be able to appreciate a beautifully detailed character because lighting is off and too dark.
I don't think you can add the sound in Houdini. Most people add music to the video itself. I think you can do that on YouTube once your video is uploaded. Does someone have a quick explanation for Dryulya?
Я не думаю, что вы можете добавить звук в Houdini. Большинство людей, добавить музыку к видео. Я думаю, что вы можете сделать это на YouTube, как только ваш видео загружены. У кого-нибудь есть краткое объяснение для Dryulya?
Hey there, yes the deadline is final. Our judges need to have time to choose the winners ahead of GDC (where the winning entries will be showcased). Good luck!
Anais, but do I get it right that despite the recently posted presentation recommendations the judgement criteria stay as they've been listed in the contest rules: "originality and level of technical detail"? Of course presentation is important, it's just that in my humble opinion video can always be looped and sound doesn't seem to have anything to do with the aforementioned criteria...
And is there a way to find out whether my submission email was received? I know I sent it only yesterday - just to make sure I'm not missing submission because of some technical issue.

The contest is over and the team here at Mixamo wants to thank and congratulate every single one of you for participating. It was a great experience and actually offered opportunities for us to learn more about Houdini.
All submissions will be shown to our panel of judges and we'll announce the winners next week!
But your role doesn't end here: for this contest, on top of other prizes, we are offering a community favorite prize. For this special prize, YOU GUYS pick the winners by voting on Twitter. You can also get your colleagues, friends, and fellow artists to vote and nominate the winner.
More on this in a separate sticky post today.
Again: congratulations to everyone and stay tuned!
Hi Anais! Thanks again for the contest. Since the contest is over and our WIP is going to be viewed by the judges, how is it that we are allowed to continue updating our WIP? I'd be more than happy to have more time to improve my submission. What is the new deadline for our WIP?
I am currently exporting all the info from all submission into a document the judging so soon, you'll be able to update everything as much as you'd like. If you can hold for just a few more minutes, that'd make things easier for me, though. I'll update this thread as soon as all entries are accounted for.

- DON'T FORGET TO ACTUALLY SUBMIT your entry. Posting a "final" thread on Polycount or updating your WIP without actually submitting (see contest page) can make you miss the deadline.
I hope this helps,
We're all looking forward to seeing everyone's work!
Best of luck!

Not even one more day? Pretty please! :poly121:

This contest was a lot of fun and a HUGE learning experience! Thanks for the opportunity!

If not, I'll just go ahead and upload a different video and place it under my WIP thread rather than the final submission thread.
Best,
