So, I'm a huge Peter Molyneux fan. Populous, Power Monger, Magic Carpet, Syndicate and Black & White are some of my favorite games of all time. Peter's games have always been groundbreaking imo and now he's got something new brewing on Kickstarter called GODUS. It's very much a reimagining of Populous and the god game genre in general. They've only got a few days left in the campaign, so if you like what you see, please consider backing it!
it started as unofficial sequel of dungeon keeper games but after some time the team realized that risk of getting cease and desist is too high so they removed all the DK stuff and went in their own direction.
One part of me is yay, one part is fuck. Me and some friends are kind-of making a game, and we want to use similarly stylized art... now of course everyone's gonna scream we're ripping off this. That said, this is gorgeous and excellently implemented - especially if that last shot is realtime.

I really don't think it is, I'm pretty sure it's rendered judging by the earlier particles and the lighting. I'd love to see a game that does look like that though...
I bought it just now, I'll see what's it about, mixed feelings at the moment, my decision to buy it was like balancing on the tip of a blade because I'm afraid it will disappoint me, at the same time it's the first God game from Peter Molyneux since B&W, B&W2 and Populous games and these games is what I grew up with too so it was a moment for me that made me get it.
Currently AS OF RELEASE, based upon what other people have mentioned so far, it's pretty terrible. Not sure if it's true or not.
-You need mass spam clicking to interact with the land, making the entire thing a carpal nightmare.
-You also collect 'faith' points by clicking 'pink' bubbles, which you in turn used to either interact with the land or skills, etc, which again, involves alot of clicking all over the place.
-Resource management doesn't exist? You need to 'click dig' the land to find chests and collect resources from there.
-You also get skills/resources (card system based) not only via chests, but also battles, these battles involve you setting up totems to tell where your units can go, but you can almost always finish a battle under a minute since you can rush with your starter units (kinda like AoE) only.
-You also cannot really manage the hubs/cities you make, as everything is mostly automated, and you only can really interact in more of a 'cast skill' kind of way.
-The crux of it all apparently is that it has a Cash Shop system in place, which allows you bypass a large amount of the stuff, but apparently, if it's anything to go by, they will be bloody expensive.
-There are rumors that all these CHANGES, have been done so to future proof test in the game on the PC for the Mobile market, ironically enough.
Many people are calling it as of now a "Cash-cow clicker Facebook game, in a single player setting for PC with some fancy artwork".
Peter molyneux with Adam sessler gives a walkthrough of the game and the ideas behind it. He addresses the cash cow clicker accusations at around 17 mins into the video. From what I've seen it still looks pretty interesting and I'm tempted to buy into the beta.
Right now I really wish the game had some sort of actual strategy instead of click on everything the game. And so far the fake multiplayer feels like it all just comes down to who can make more people quicker.
Game is still addictive. But there really isn't much going for it in terms of a God game.
Two things are probably true though: the pr fallout made them reconsider the gemshop for the pc version AND: the mobile version will most likely have a gemshop.

That layered terrain is fucking GORGEOUS. I can't wait for this. Even if they don't hit their KS goal, I hope they still make it.

Very true, but not bad for 2 weeks work!
Damn, they just made another update. AWESOME.
I soooo hope they get it looking like this.
This looks really interesting, loving the style :poly124::poly124:
it doesn't exactly ooze confidence in the product, now does it?
Loved the old games
