    Its wierd, the dark lighting, actually makes the first picture seem real. My guess is because its so dark, you dont notice the lack of AO, the bland texture work on the diffuse and normal map, along with the continual usage of tileing textures.

    Work on giving your props character. The chair your sitting in. Is it steril? No, it has scratches, it has sweet marks, it has desaturated wear and tear. That laptop, how long has it been used? a used laptop will have palm marks, wear on the key pads. That table, its black. I have no idea what it is. Wood? Plastic. No grain, nothing? all I see are coffee stains and thats it? Really? Get some dust, food drops, scratches, dings. Hand prints and smudges.

    You got something good going, but man, push that character and story into your scene. Keep it up.
