Environment Artist at Unity Technologies

Unity Technologies are looking to hire an experienced middleweight 3D Environment Artist to work on-site at their Brighton studio. The role is a full-time contract over a three-month period. The successful candidate will be liaising with the Lead Artist in the creation of a range of 3D game environments, in pursuit of the highest levels of visual and technical fidelity.

Education and Relevant Experience:
  • 3+ years of high-end CG production in game development.
  • Proficiency at both efficient hard-surface and organic modelling.
  • Meticulous eye for detail.
  • Excellent texturing skills.
  • Portfolio showing digital sculpting in a range of art styles.
  • Demonstrated ability to maximise the visual impact of fast DX shaders.
  • Efficient UV layout skills and strong unwrapping ability.
  • Working knowledge of the following: Maya or 3DS Max, ZBrush or Mudbox, XNormal and Photoshop.
  • Experience creating Environments in Unity a bonus.
  • Proven ability to work with and without reference.
  • Self-reliant, but with the ability to accept direction and professional criticism.

Goals and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a consistent AAA+ standard of work throughout a range of environments and assigned assets with direction from the Lead Artist - ensuring that finished work is to-standard, optimal and game-ready.
  • Model, bake and sculpt hi-poly models and retolopgise to a DX11 game standard.
  • Produce multipass texture assets to the highest possible standard.
  • Maintain solid organization of project files, and best-practise across the project.
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with the Lead Artist.
  • Collaborate and articulately communicate with other team members around the globe to ensure the needs of all interested parties are met on-schedule and to the required standard.
  • Identify production issues and potential dependencies and notify accordingly.
  • Additional duties may be required.

  • Background in traditional art techniques a bonus.
  • Great communicator and team player.
  • Keen critical eye and able to self-critique.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexible to change and able to work under pressure.
