That's pretty cool and would be really useful for physical sculpting. I like that he actually created clavicles (something the wooden ball jointed models just don't have). It would be cool if he had shoulder blades, but I guess you could make those yourself...
for digital work I would stick to using a premade 3D rig like CAT, Biped, PuppetShop or LoMax? With those you can rescale the pieces into whatever shape you need and actually help to define the silhouette of the character a bit better?
