Not feeling so well this morning, but hey nothing like a little art to lift the spirits. I have been seeing quite a few badass mechs around lately and wanted to try my hand at it. This isn't my first but it has to be like my 3rd or 4th attempt at it. When I completed it I named it 2D9 because it felt to District 9 and I really want to create my own style of mechs, so back to the drawing board...well after I get a bit more rest. Have a great and creative day all!
That mech looks really cool! Would be nice if you put in a couple of values to differentiate parts to improve readability.
Very nice and balanced rendering of that cyborg sniper, not too tight and not too loose. The way you handled the rim light from the sun really adds to the photo-realism of the piece.
SCORPION Z-0: This is a small briefcase sized mech that you can attach a variety of SMGs to. It''s primarily used as a sentry turret, but could help you get the upper hand if you find yourself being swarmed by a ravaging horde of Zombies.
Thanks guys! I did a color pass on the Scorpion. Trying to decide if I want to push this design further or just leave it here. I have a few ideas for variations of this bot.
Mounting a gun on a robot to turn it into a sentry? That's a clever idea.
I wonder though where its computer/brain is located. Suppose since it's a futuristic design the hardware required could be pretty compact but it looks like most available space of the frame is taken up by articulation-stuff. Would it be in the grey box at the center perhaps?
I would guess that perhaps the lions share of the processing goes on in that box with the antenna poking out of the top. It would be cool if all the componets such as the leg articulation motors, trigger control, Tracking system, etc all had receivers and just got commands remotely. The wires could just be a backup system. You know I'm really glad you brought this up because now I'm considering that the mechs power could be distributed wirelessly as well. Thank You!
Well, now you made me look up wireless power transmission and there's already working prototypes involving coils resonating at the same frequency at a shorter distances can transfer power between each other. Being a futuristic design the idea sounds pretty plausible actually. Could have one receiver per leg in case one of them would break.
So yeah, go for it I say. Be careful though to not have it accidentally becoming an excuse in case the way things go together would be confusing for the viewer. It could turn into a "it's done by magic" justification. What I'm trying to get at, some visuals hinting on the power system might be a good idea, like where the receivers are placed. Not sure how to incorporate that into the design but I'm thinking out loud. Hope you don't mind.
Didn't notice the box at the "head" at first but it could serve a good spot for the core. Maybe have the antenna looking more like a classic antenna (dark, cylindrical) to have the purpose read more clearly.
I have been looking forward to see more of your work, and you does not dissapoint! Incredible detail and render!
Did you use any reference for the facestudy?
Esbjörn yes I referenced a shot from a Louis Vuitton commercial. Great commercial btw you can peep it here: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDjBxqf4Yo0"]Louis Vuitton Interpreting Muhammad Ali's 'Dream' with Yasiin Bey and Niels Shoe Meulman - YouTube[/ame]

But it will look more good if you do some 3D to it or something in Zbrush!
Though it is just an idea!

@AimBiz I agree it is a bit long, her right knee is a bit big too.

@Daven I appreciate that, thanks man!
Ah yes, seeing it now. Reads so much better!
This is a sketch I did tonight.

More iterations to come!
