Yeah, I thought about that, I guess it could work for the main part, but it would be hard to get rid of that split edge.
And even though it's going to be a very minor prop, I still want it to be as good as I can manage.
Guess I'll research baking a bit more, unless someone else can help.
If you haven't already, read Earthquakes thread. Remember to Triangulate before you bake too.

I read that thread and I think I did everything correctly.
I split the UVs at hard edges and made a cage in xnormal.
Maybe my smoothing groups just weren't set up correctly.
I'll look into it more for my next models.
