[DOTA 2] Anti-Mage - TBA

Hello polycount forum, we are 2 programmers who have been learning 3D modeling as a elective at university and have decided to have a crack at this contest since we were already considering doing a item for dota 2 anyways.

We have selected Anti-Mage as our hero, and first off we decided to remove the chest piece and see what he looks like without that item.

As you can see the artist put alot of effort into the chest of the character and we quite like the body art as well. Now for items, straight away we thought of a head piece and instead of a helmet we decided on a mask because why cover over/remove that mohawk. Also a mask would allow us to equip it without effecting the orginal chest piece. The chest is a bit baren so we took the concept of the arm greaves to create a shoulder pad so they are consisent and since we arent going to replace them. Also removing the chest piece also removed the belt, so we need to add in a belt or a belt piece plus extending the shirt part to expand up the chest a bit

We haven't decided on the colouring of the mask or the belt piece and dont know if we should use the grey or blue-grey or stick with purple.

Thats it for now, we would appeciate some feedback if possible, especially on the colours. Also if the shoulder pad is allowed since we hae clearly taken design from the arm greaves.

    Anyways we haven't given up upon seeing the awesomeness on show like linked above, and while we should update our concept art with our changes, it just that it would be much harder than the modeling so we decided to get right onto that instead :D. (We will update the concept when we have time)

    Alright here is our Mask Model update:

    We dont know if we should expand the eye area, but a issue we have is that the nose isn't exactly a great shape on the character but its not too bad.
    Any suggestion would be great, on how to deal with the nose or if their is any problems with the eyes.

    Alright 3rd update, gave up on concepts :D, more effort into items it self, and we went away from the simple stuff with what we have in the concept above.

    So we decided that we would go away with the belt of original am and create our own to give us texture freedom in that area and make it smaller.

    We need to remodel the flaps, but we will see for now. The shoulder peice was dropped for a more upper chest-hood combo, the area around the shoulder is currently transparent but will be masked maybe a semi-transparent white if possible. The hood is raised to give the look that he still has his hair but the hair is in fact turned off.

    So yea that is what we are going for at the moment, we are also looking to do some shoes since the anti mage rags kinder suck and are the worst part of the model, although you never really see them in game.

    Well thats our 3rd update, the next one will hopefully be the final model and then move onto textures since we need to get a move on to make it to the deadline.

    Ditched the belt section and going to redo, even looking at it now it looks no good. Added minor improvements to the upper body section, need to reduce the polycount, currently standing in at around 1500 tris, so reduce it down to 1000 and it would be on same level as am chest piece.

    Here are some close up shot of the chest piece + mask items, we think we have done a good job on them, hopefully the texturing turns out okay, its not our strong point.

    Tighten up the poly count, normal map and do some cleanup and that should be all good to go for the final stretch, but overall thats 2 items down, one more to go.
