asking myself what i can do more with this... maybe different background? or use an expression on the face next time? although you almost never see that on a classic bust...
i render in 3dsMax with mental ray. My lightning setup is a skylight set to 0,25 a spotlight set to 0,27 a slight orange front omni set to 0,75 and a darker greenblue back omni set to 0,5.

I'll have to check how to get the dof less grainy (first time i used it).
and do you mean the gamma overall or specifically for the bust itself?
it's the white background that's washing out your image... when using final gathering it behaves like a white self illuminated ball around your environment. use an HDRI to light the scene, within an environment/background switcher so you'll have separate background and environment map, for lighting and reflections.
