Hey All! Just starting my W.I.P thread now for the Faceless Void, will have hopefully posted all my concept designs by the end of this week! (Running a little late)
Here is one of my first concept sketches for head gear for the faceless void. The main theme here being discipline, I used the tool that horse riders use to steer and guide there horses (the bit). The Head Gear is driven by his ancestors, guiding the Faceless Void through battle with the knowledge of their past battle experiences.
Here are 2 ideas I had for weapons. I wanted to bring through the sharpness of a hammerhead shark's teeth, as well as the forcefulness of a kick you get from a hoofed creature.(I have only experienced the kick, but I'm sure it'll make a painful combo).
So I kinda ended up with a Spiked Hammer/Heavy Pick Axe thing, which could link up nicely with his obsession with the Nemesis Stone. Maybe he wants to mine it, and cut out anyone or anything that gets in his way.
The Weapon on the right, is pretty much a recycled helmet idea, attached to an iron bar. The idea was to be that the Faceless void would have to go through an initiation where he would defeat his predecessor, and use the helmet(of the predecessor) as validation of his initiation.
Here is modeling progress of his Helm in Maya. I will post the concept sketch that inspired this design tomorrow, left the file at home , but it is very similar to the above weapon on the right.
So there have been a lot of concept changes, and this was due to some ideas I got after I started modeling and sculpting. I decided to go for something more "spacey" that combines Organic detail with sharp edged geometry. I have a feeling that a lot of the detail is going to be lost, but I'm new to all of this, so I guess this is how you learn!
I also got rid of the Hammer Idea for the weapon. I played Dota2 for the first time, using the Faceless Void, and considering he is in the Agility class he should have a weapon that is lighter, allowing him to move more freely.
