Hi guys, working on a garden lamp

until today I have almost always avoided texturing (cause I found it difficult),but I decided to learn to do that properly,& for that I could use your help (I totally need it lol)
So,my actual doubt is about the red piece on the image below. It should be red painted wood, but as you see in the specular I put a yellowish color cause I thought it was cool to fake something like the paint reflecting the yellowish light of an unidentified light source, stuff like this (though probably the effect is too strong),it make sense to you guys or is totally out of place & only good in my mind??
Also thinking about that I have strong doubt about it,because even if I like the effect suppose I have that prop in a place without any yellowish light,I would be screwed, right?
How you should have done it? also, can you guys point me some awesome resources/tutorial to get a good grasp on texturing & to understend how properly do stuff like specular maps?
thx

Good luck :P
