Looks good man i think you should take out the back of the sphere on the back it seen a bit aquward inbetween the handles. also sence this will be backed down to a low polly on the low poly i would make it a bit thiner the thickness of the shield makes me fel overwhelmed but fot the low poly the extream depth may work well for you.
And impressive rendition. I would advise turning the bump on the back of the shield inside out to make it concave or remove it and put a plank there. With that half-sphere, getting struck on the snap would shatter the user's forearm like a wishbone, which defeats the purpose of a shield entirely. Not so much a modeling crit as much as a pracitcality one.
the parts that are not in the geometry look fine when baked (granted the high poly could use some more work), but the geo that youve got on the middle seems very faceted, bubbly, and just weird. overall it doesnt look like this shield has any extruded faces on the front of it, and it just makes the overall shape look weird. all of the recesses should be quite shallow and in your case since they'll all be projected to a normal, you should bevel them so it reads better like the following:
it also looks like your high poly wasnt even smoothed before baking, resulting in edges that dont contour the shape of the shield (or it could just be about the bendy-ness of your low poly. can we see wires and the normal map? also i think itd help to use some more references on this from different angles. honestly i google searched for this a couple times and couldnt find anything on it.. it didnt even strike me as a lotr shield at all. if you've got other references, care to share em?
