"What do you guys think" about the Environment Art Internship not being listed anymore. I'm not really expecting feedback for my house because I know there's more work to be done all around, but I wanted to talk about the internship.
Seemed weird to me that they used the same concepts they did last year. The 2013 internships look exactly like the 2012 so they may have just reposted everything not realizing they didn't need env artists. No way I can know for sure though.
Well fuck man. I do feel kinda relieved and learned too. So whatever. Gotta get back on that portfolio stuff I guess. Also considering that my max file got corrupted tonight and somehow didn't autobackup for whatever reason I guess I saw this in time. Want offical conformation though. They also changed the date to the 14th last I heard.
Edit:
not only is it gone it states
"ArenaNet is once again considering internship applications. ArenaNet Class of 2013 will offer the following disciplines: Character Art and Programming. Please consider the following application methods below, and make sure to include all necessary materials."
Seems official to me, they didn't post it on Facebook though.
I have been working on the test as well and not too happy about ArenaNet removing the internship program for environment artists. Oh well, at least I will all have a new art piece for my portfolio...
I can't say I'm not disappointed, but I am still going to finish it and act like I never found out about that. It's still good experience and portfolio piece nonetheless right? Just have fun with it!
It sucks they removed it but consider the fact that if you were so motivated and 'bustin balls' to work on it you have probably also learned something along the way. Also, there should be no excuse to not take the time you would have spent up to the deadline to make something else for your portfolio.
Heh. I thought it was just people still making the same test from last year, just for practice. Now I understand why a lot of these suddenly popped up.
Wow, I'd been putting in a lot of time on that. I have a 40 hour work week plus freelance obligations I worked around (who needs sleep anyway?) But you know what? Along the way I learned how to make a pretty decent tiling texture in Zbrush (which I still need to learn more about), and was learning a lot about the program and how to approach texture map optimization.
I also thought it was strange they used the same concept sheets from last year, but I didn't attempt it last year and was excited to give it a go this year. I'm not sure if I will be finishing it at this point, but I did learn something at least.
it's just a test to see who will give up
so just start working harder and if your house looks better than the houses in guild wars 2, they will hire you, even if they don't need a enviro artist
Well, this art test forced me to learn how to sculpt tiling textures. Also I tried 4 times making a wood texture, and now Im a lot more comfortable with it. It does kind of annoy me though...Every day at work selling tv's I just keep telling myself "dont get lazy, there is a window of opportunity, work your butt off and you wont have to sell tvs anymore."
Great to see plenty of people aren't thinking they wasted their time on this, maybe made an awesome piece during that time even if they don't get in...oh wait...
Seriously, you're not entitled to anything, you made something and you either get in, or you don't, or the company fills up the position in the mean-time or later.

I want my time back...
Hi,
We are focusing on Character artists for the upcoming artists. How about a character entry?
So there you go.

Sadly, that window has closed. All hope is lost
